I fluctuate between types A and B. I’ve been that way as long as I can remember. Some things I am 100% type A about, and other things make my type B personality stronger.
In both instances, I have learned to overcome (or at least attempt to overcome) my “natural” type. When I feel the type A-ness swelling, I consciously work to take steps back and chill a bit. When I feel the type B-ness bubbling, I work to drive harder.
It’s nurture over nature. It doesn’t always work. There are absolutely times when I know my colleagues or team are wishing I would chill out, and I have also been asked to take more initiative in certain circumstances. It might confuse people. Heck, it confuses me. What’s important, though, (I think) is that I am conscious of my efforts and working to change them for the better.
Are you type-A or type-B? Do you think nurses are generally one type over the other?
