About Joni

Hi! I’d love to get to know you and help you turn ideas and dreams into realities.

Like everyone, I wear many hats and have multifaceted passions. My favorites are wife and mom. I glean a great deal of fulfillment from other work: teaching, consulting-development, speaking and writing, and coaching and mentoring.

I have served in healthcare leadership roles from frontline nurse to local hospital and integrated healthcare system executive. Like any professional, I have a diverse background, interests, and passions. I love learning, and as a result, I hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington, a Master of Science in Nursing and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Tyler, a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Duke University, and post-graduate executive certificates in Healthcare Artificial Intelligence and Negotiation from the MIT Sloan School of Management and Harvard Law School Program on Negotiation, respectively.

As Consulting Associate Faculty in the Duke University School of Nursing Doctor of Nursing Practice Executive Leadership Program, I teach healthcare executives advanced healthcare topics and decision-making. I publish and present on various topics including leadership, mentoring, complexity theory and complex adaptive systems, healthcare innovation, program development, process improvement, evidence-based clinical transformation, intrapreneurship, the entire oncology care continuum (cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and survivorship), patient navigation, and healthcare technology and social media. My doctoral work focused on nurse navigation and primary care collaborations to improve low-dose CT lung cancer screening rates, showing positive organizational financial and patient care outcomes.

My areas of expertise include executive healthcare leadership and development, program development, healthcare innovation and transformation, new care delivery models, large-scale system change, healthcare operations across acute and ambulatory care settings, and joy, creativity, and faith in work. I’m comfortable talking with myriad stakeholders, including clinicians of every discipline, C-suite executives, philanthropic donors, boards of directors, government agencies, technology and pharmaceutical industry partners, and diverse patient populations. I commonly translate information between the bedside, the boardroom, and industry brands.

I’m a native Texan in love with Jesus, family time, reading, and writing. When I’m not working, you can probably find me in my home, with my favorite people, or reading a nonfiction book and hoping for rain.

I love being around people – meeting them, getting to know them, building teams, and celebrating them (oh my goodness, yes!). I’d love to connect with you!
