When I worked at the bedside, special television shows like The GRAMMYs meant I would catch glimpses of the performances in between assessing and caring for patients. Often, patients and families would welcome me into the rooms and conversations: “Can you believe it’s actually raining while they’re signing?” “What is she wearing?!” “Did you see that?” The oddity brings some normalcy – even to a hospital room.
Even though I’m not at the bedside currently in my nursing career, I am still working at the moment. As I watch The GRAMMYs, my mind drifts to those bedside moments, and I experience one of those connected moments, via The GRAMMYs.
Thank you.

February 11, 2013 9:33 amI remember watching the royal wedding (just last year) with a long-time patient. I love taking a peek at the cooking shows or Good Morning America when my patient’s watch. I loved it for the same reason you mention…it restores normalcy. I would talk about those events like I would talk to my friends and family. I miss those days!
