There’s no such thing.
We ask because we need to know. So go ahead – bring on the “gross,” the “embarrassing,” the “crude.” If there’s anyone who will listen to your “TMI,” it’s a nurse.

The Nerdy Nurse
May 23, 2011 10:43 amI do my best to only list the truly TMI when I’m in my nursing cap. I can do many things as a nurse that I can’t do at home. I transform… odd, but true, and needed to maintain sanity, i think.

May 23, 2011 10:53 amI definitely agree. However, I find that when people find out I’m a nurse, they automatically share openly, sometimes too much. That’s a great thing because people trust us, but I have honestly looked at wounds and suspicious skin marks on more strangers – in public – than I can count. I always follow the golden line – “Yeah, you should follow up with your healthcare provider about that.” 🙂 People tend to realize they’ve shared TMI (in public) only after the encounter.
I don’t think TMI exists in the clinical setting as we’d rather have too much info from patients than not enough.
It’s nice to leave the TMI at work when possible! 🙂
