I am starting to do a lot of new things in my role, but they’re not new, per se. Collaboration, timeliness, open communication, appreciation, advocacy – the leadership and management functions remain the same.
It reminds me of the nursing process. Learn it right the first time, and use it for the remainder of your career, no matter how many times you change practice settings or roles.
Yes, my new system and colleagues give me new lenses to view problems, but I am feeling much more comfortable in my role, settling in to the well-worn frames that helped me once before.
It’s true. What was old is new again.
