I heard someone talk about “supervision” recently. I laughed because the word struck me like never before. Super. Vision. Revolutionary, innovative, compelling – it’s an odd dichotomy from what we typically think of in regards to supervision roles and responsibilities – regulatory, monotonous.
Why is that?
I think it’s because most of the time we’ve taken the vision out of management and left it solely as a “leadership” function. Managers and frontline supervisors need vision for their teams just like senior leaders have visions for the broader organization. Without it, teams at all levels work in the dark. The vision should be distilled from the top to the front-line of service. It should lead every interaction and decision.
Here’s hoping your vision is super today – no matter your role.
