Walking is an inexpensive and low-impact form of physical activity to improve cardiovascular health as well as decrease the risk of certain cancers.

Today is National Start! Walking Day. It is a great day to make a commitment to increasing your physical activity through walking 30 minutes each day by getting up today – wherever you are – and walking.

The American Heart Association has excellent resources to help including videos, tracking logs, and a smart phone walking paths application. If you’re in Texas, or simply interested, you can keep track of your mileage and see how far you’ve walked with Walk Across Texas. And, if you’re like me, you need reminders to take a break and get up and move. If so, Workrave might be a good option for you throughout the day.

So what are you waiting for? Go take a walk!
