Here’s a pretty cool infographic about nursing and nurses. I’m not sure about the stat about paid nursing being a largely male-dominated profession until a century ago as I’ve never heard or read that one. Anyone have a reference for my education? Most of the other stats included, though, I recall hearing or reading previously. I snagged this infographic from Visual.ly, which snagged it from NursingSchool.org.

July 23, 2011 3:29 pmSimply just Wow!!!National average 19 dollars? Well, almost 20, but when I came out of school in the late 90’s, I remember out university saying that the average was 16 dollars, and I remember my first night shift job being around 18 bucks (differential included.) Definitely salaries haven’t really kept up with inflation, which is a shame. I was thinking that the average would be in the mid 20’s by now.

July 26, 2011 5:50 pmYelled at and assaulted more than prison guards? I believe it! There was one lady in the triage dept who would come in every day. One day I had to polite tell her that there really, really truly wasn’t anything we could do about her back pain. She came in every day, literally – and she had already seen countless docs to diagnose this weird dull(!) pain.
She got really mad and we had to hire a security guard because she would walk in and throw stuff like empty soda bottles and cans into the triage doorway from the waiting room. It was funny, though…just more creepy than I care to remember!
