I’m a big fan of the American Journal of Nursing and the corresponding blog, Off the Charts, which is mostly written by the AJN Editor-in-Chief, Maureen Shawn Kennedy, MA, RN. Few – if any – nursing publications boast that level of editor involvement in (gasp!) a blog. AJN is one of the few that “gets it.”

Not only does AJN disseminate timely information to nurses, but they (the editorial team) have a way of encouraging the art of nursing as well as the arts within nursing. The publication cover often features nurse artists and photographers, such as fellow nurse-blogger Julianna Paradisi, RN. AJN also includes a special “Reflections” column in which nurses can submit personal essays about the nursing profession. If you use writing as a creative outlet, you should strongly consider submitting an essay to AJN.
